Residency

Residents education is also stimulated by the  education program. More specifically two weekly lectures target residents:

1. Grand rounds given by Faculty members and invited speakers

2. Clinical case presentations presented by residents

The Department of Pediatrics currently offers trainees a four-year program to achieve broad clinical competency in general pediatrics.

We are committed to clinical training emphasising a well balanced, hands-on experience in pediatrics that prepares residents equally well for careers as pediatric generalists or pediatric subspecialists.

The Department of Pediatrics training program provides all residents with:

  • A comprehensive and competency-based introduction to, and on-going exposures over training in both acute care and subspecialty paediatrics.
  • 50% of all clinical exposures (general and subspecialty) in inpatient department and 40% in ambulatory settings
  • 10% of training time devoted to continuity of patient care through our innovative for Greece well baby clinic

Our department offers experience in many subspecialties of Pediatrics through their busy outpatient clinics: Endocrinology, Pulmonology-Allergiology, Neurology, Behavioral and developmental paediatrics, Infectious Diseases, Gastrenterology and Rheumatology. Six months of residency are devoted in neonatology. Our clinic provides broad experience in neonatology since we are located next to the 3rd University OB-GYN clinic so residents are exposed to normal deliveries, caesarean sections and normal newborns. Our hospital has been awarded with the title of “baby friendly” clinic since we promote rooming-in and breast feeding. Residents also rotate through our NICU unit.

Stimulating weekly radiology rounds have been organised.

The training program emphasizes progressive responsibility for the maintenance of the health of children in a structured, supervised, and intellectually stimulating milieu.
